Yellowstone field trip

The Thermal Biology Institute provided an exciting all day Yellowstone field trip for Montana science teachers on Saturday, October 20th.  The trip focused on Yellowstone thermal environments and included special guest, NASA microbiologist Brad Bebout.   Michelle Bahr from Marine Biological Laboratory in Maine shared insights to hands on low tech equipment to capture protist (microscopic organisms) and shared enthusiasm with teachers.  Also, Susan, Kim, And Monica shared fascinating facts and information about Yellowstone and the “other” creatures within the boundaries of the Park.  While we were at Norris Geyser basin a beautiful snow storm moved in on us as we learned about the chemistry and the extreme microbes that in habitat this very acid environment.  Thanks to Dana Skorupa, Eric Boyd and Galena Ackerman to their fascinating insights and showing us the amazing diversity at our feet.
